Grow with Abt Associates

We are proud to announce that Abt Associates is one of the internship and research opportunity providers within the New Colombo Plan. Abt Associates has been working for the past 50+ years to improve the wellbeing of people worldwide and has extensive experience in the Asia Pacific region, delivering solutions in Health, Education and Governance for over a decade.

We are currently working to facilitate partnerships between business innovators, start-ups, funders, social entrepreneurs, and communities across Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Myanmar, Vietnam and Philippines, to link, learn, exchange ideas, develop and scale solutions to the problems of poverty and inequality.

Our mission is simple: to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of people worldwide.

Operating within the cultural context of a problem is paramount to our success. By engaging problem holders and stakeholders directly from the start, and empowering them to help form a solution, we drastically reduce the inefficiencies historically encountered in development work.

Our human-centred approach aligns perfectly with the NCP’s aims in immersing the youth of Australia in cultures in the Indo-pacific region and developing long-term relationships with the people they meet and work with.

Interning with Abt will allow students to not only employ their skills to have a transformative impact within the communities we’re working with, but to gain a familial understanding of the people and culture itself.

The programs which the New Colombo Plan Scholars will be able to impact upon are:

Fiji

Indonesia

Papua New Guinea

What is it?

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is an Australian government initiative with the aim of supporting the youth of Australia in developing a deeper understanding of the Indo-Pacific region, and to explore the growing opportunities that exist between the countries in this age of interconnectedness and interdependence.

The plan provides scholarships and support for students to study, intern or research in programs across 38 countries in the region, for up to one year.

The NCP is intended to be a highly valued transformational experience, with the government wishing to see studying in the region becoming a rite of passage for young Australian. It is hoped that it will deepen Australia’s relationships in the region, both at the individual level and through expanding relationships between universities, businesses and more.

By the end of 2016, the program will have seen over 10,000 students funded to discover other cultures and regions ranging from India, Mongolia to Papua New Guinea.
